OFFROAD MOVIE TOUR
“See Kauai through Hollywood’s eyes"
Get way off the traveled roads of Kauai, going deep into the
heart of where it all started in brand new year 2000 four wheel drive Ford
vans. Built for comfort (or as comfortable as it can get deep in the
jungle), these beautiful machines have been built to custom
specifications, rough and tough and able to handle the worst of
conditions. Each van is equipped with surround sound and video, used to
show you scenes from movies at the location they were filmed. A theater on
wheels!
The first stop on this adventure will be the Keahua
Arboretum. After that, a switch on the machine into four wheel drive
and head into the jungles of Kauai. Your destination? The Jurassic gates
from the first Jurassic park. While most of the gate is gone, they
did leave something behind for you to see. Along the way you will see the
lushest jungle on the island with an incredible array of flora. A botanist
has prepared flora books for you to identify what you are looking at. You
will also see wild pigs and unique birds. You will go to the location
where Kevin Costner just
filmed the new movie, Dragonfly. You will also see a location for Flights
Of The Intruder. Arriving at the gates, you will see the most
incredible view of Mt. Waialeale, the wettest spot on earth. Twice on your
route, you will have to drive through flowing streams. Beyond the gates,
you will take a very easy and relaxing hike about a quarter of a mile to a
lookout point of a crater that will take your breath away. An unbelievable
photo opportunity!
Now off to lunch on a beautiful and serene beach
which just happens to be a filming location for Fantasy Island, Pagan
Love Song (with Esther Williams) and Blue Hawaii. Your deli
lunch consists of croissant sandwiches, artichoke and pasta salad, chips
and a wide vary of beverages. Vegetarian lunches available upon request.
If this tour hasn’t blown your mind yet, just wait.
After lunch you head to the incredible Rice Ranch, a 2500 acre cattle
ranch which has been home to many movies including Raiders Of The Lost
Ark, The Lost World, Mighty Joe Young, Outbreak
and several others which you will be told about when you get there.
Because it is a working cattle ranch with over 2500 head of cattle, the
owners have never before opened it up to vehicles. You will be
experiencing a first. And you will see things you’ve never seen before,
like the beautiful falls where Harrison Ford looked for the cave in Raiders
of the Lost Ark, the stream that was dramatically used for a firefight
in the opening of Outbreak, as well as the beautiful meadow where
they built the soldiers' camp that they blew to smithereens in the same
film.
Then you will go looking for wild boar, as well
as the endangered Nene goose, Hawaii’s state bird. You’ll see peacocks
everywhere, and cows - thousands of cows that love to surround the vans.
This place is a virtual feast for photographers. Traveling roads that are
barely there, we will drive through the same fields that the indians
chased Harrison Ford through in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and
finally, down to the Hule’ia River where he swung on the rope and swam
to the plane, arrows screaming over his head. Go ahead, swing on the rope,
just don’t let go because you don’t have a swimming suit and towels
aren't supplied. This great tour is 5 and a half hours long and tons of
fun.
